Bucket Down

Artisan 24-7 exhibition

Each artwork carved from sponge comments on various contemporary social concerns pertinent to Australia. The bright, bold colours in the 'Bucket Down' installation are alluring yet the artwork has a serious issue underlying its facade. In the Australian climate, drought and water shortage is a constant concern with the continual need to conserve every drop of water. The buckets and the sink plugs in this installation each have their own symbology associated with them - each sink plug represents a single drop of water conserved and not wasted, and the buckets speak of the futility often felt when trying to conserve this precious resource.

This artwork specifically relates to water, ironically however, if it was to come into contact with water, the sponge's drying process would begin and the artwork would be ruined.
